biography

Leonardo de Figueroa was born in the city of Utiel. After his youth in Antequera he practiced masonry in Seville from 1670 to 1675. In this city, where he married twice, he remained active as a builder. His first important building was the Hospital de los Venerables in Seville, which he built from 1686 to 1696. From 1682 he directed the construction of the Hospital de la Caridad in the same city .

From 1691 to 1709 the church and monastery of the Dominicans San Pablo la Real were built under his supervision . Today the church serves as the house of worship for the parish of St. Magdalena in Seville. Particularly noteworthy about this building are the dome and the rich, colorful construction equipment in stucco and with paintings.

The masterpiece by Leonardo de Figueroa is the church of San Luis de los Franceses in Seville, built after 1691 , whose floor plan has the shape of a Greek cross.
