The shipping company Leonhardt Schiffahrt was founded in 1974 in Hamburg by Bernd Leonhardt.

history

In 1974 Bernd Leonhardt, eldest son of the shipowner Hans Leonhardt, founded the shipping company Leonhardt Schiffahrt in Hamburg and started with the Iserlohn and Marburg ships , which he had bought from Hapag-Lloyd AG. He renamed the motorized cargo ships with 5150 GRT built in Lübeck by Orenstein & Koppel in 1958 as Leo Soling and Leo Star . There were so-called intermediate decks that he used when tramping .

He also ordered from the Japanese Kagoshima Dockyard & Iron Co. Ltd. a motor cargo ship with 4,850 GRT, this motor ship named Leo Tempest was a single decker and was delivered in 1975. In 1978 he received the motor ship Leo Tornado with 5,270 GRT, also a single decker, from the same shipyard . In 1978 he bought the motor ship Cypress , which was built in Romania in 1975 and measured 5030 GRT and was renamed Leo Sharpy .

These five own motor freighters, two intermediate decks and three single deckers, were used by the Leonhardt Schiffahrt shipping company in global tramping. The nautical and technical inspection work and also the human resources were carried out by other shipping companies.

In 1980, Bernd Leonhardt saved the Gauss surveying ship from being scrapped by buying it from the Hamburg demolition company Eckhardt & Co. This ship was delivered in 1941 by DW Kremer Sohm, Elmshorn for the Kriegsmarine as the Trave water tanker and after the war in 1946 it was transferred to the US Office of Military Government for Germany ( OMGUS ). Taken over in 1947 by the Bremen shipping company Ernst Glässel, it was soon converted into the Gauss survey ship for the DHI and handed over to Bernd Leonhardt in 1980. His plan to convert the Gauss into a luxury yacht for paying passengers was not realized. The ship lay in Lübeck for a long time. In 1982 the two intermediate decks were launched due to the poor market situation and canceled in China and Spain in 1983/84.

In 1992 the shipping company was greatly reduced. Two shareholders are involved in the company Bernd Leonhardt Schiffahrt GmbH & Co. KG, based in Schenefeld, and it is currently (as of March 2017) managed by a manager and is entered in the commercial register with the legal form GmbH & Co. KG. The company is registered at the Trade register at the local court of Pinneberg with the legal form of Limited (number HRA 3827 PI).
