Leopard Island is an island in the Wilhelm Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 330 m west of the southwestern extension of Skua Island in the group of the Argentine Islands in the northeastern extension of the Grandidier Canal .
Participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill mapped the island. It is probably named after the leopard seal ( Hydrurga leptonyx ), a seal that is widespread in southern polar waters.
