Skua Island is a roughly triangular island in the group of Argentine Islands of the Wilhelm Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It lies between Black Island in the southwest and Winter Island and Galíndez Island in the north and northeast.
The island was mapped and named during the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . It is named after the Antarctic kuas ( Stercorarius maccormicki ) found on the island .
