Leopold Leonidowitsch Awerbach ( Russian Леопольд Леонидович Авербах ; * 1903 in Saratov , † August 14, 1937 in Moscow ) was a Soviet literary critic.

Life

Awerbach was editor of the magazine Molodaja Gwardija (dt. Junge Garde ), member of the editorial team of Na postu and leading member of the writers' associations WAPP and RAPP . He was described by his opponents as a "literary gangster" and "literary dictator".

Leo Awerbach was a staunch Stalinist , but he was arrested and shot during the Great Terror in 1937. Among the staunch opponents of the proletarian cult he represented was u. a. Alexander Voronsky , who was shot the day before him.

family

Averbach was a nephew of Yakov Sverdlov , the first Soviet head of state. His wife Jelena was the daughter of Lenin's secretary Vladimir Bontsch-Brujewitsch . Awerbach's sister Ida was married to Genrich Jagoda . She was also shot after his fall.
