Leopoldo Billings

Leopoldo Billings (born July 23, 1932 in El Callao , Bolívar ) is a Venezuelan composer, conductor and music teacher.

Billings took lessons from his father, the organist Norman Billings, before attending the Escuela Superior de Música José Ángel Lamas , where he studied organ with Evencio Castellanos , trombone with Pascual Salvato and composition with Vicente Emilio Sojo . In 1959 he completed his training as a maestro compositor .

In 1971 he studied conducting with Victor Tevah and Enrique García Asencio . He later studied composition with Bernardo Bernaola in Santiago de Compostela . 1977-78 he took part in musicology courses with Miguel Quero .

Billings worked as an organist at Caracas Cathedral, Kapellmeister at the Church of St. Joseph's Congregation, and as a musician and board member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela . He has appeared as a conductor in various Latin American countries and has taught harmony, counterpoint and composition at the Escuela Superior de Música José Angel Lamas and the Escuela Juan Manuel Olivares since 1960 .
