Leprous is a Norwegian progressive metal - band from Notodden , which was established in the 2,001th

history

The band was formed in 2001. A demo followed in 2004 and 2006. This enabled the band to increase its popularity. In August 2008 the debut album Tall Poppy Syndrome was recorded, after which the band was looking for a suitable label. After signing a contract with Sensory Records , the album was released in May 2009.

In the same year the band gave various appearances in Scandinavia . In 2010 concerts in Europe and the USA followed . She also supported the band Therion on their tour through Europe, playing in 17 countries within 30 days.

In 2011 the band released the second album called Bilateral on InsideOut Music , before joining Coal in 2013 and The Congregation via the same label in 2015.

In November 2016 the band released their first live album. With this they documented a performance at the Rockefeller Music Hall in their hometown Oslo . Einar Solberg, the singer of Leprous, said in an interview with Metal.de that this concert was his personal live highlight.

In June 2017 the band released a video for their song From the Flame from their upcoming album Malina . In 2019 the band's sixth album Pitfalls was released via InsideOut Music.

style

The band plays modern progressive metal, the music being described as a mix of the styles of Devin Townsend , Opeth and Porcupine Tree . Already on Malina the style of Leprous became increasingly rock and was expanded by pop elements. "Pitfalls" moves away from a metal sound and takes up elements of progressive rock and synth pop. Cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne has also been involved in the albums since Malina , while the use of synthesizers also developed.

Leprous are often valued for the unmistakable singing of the singer Einar Solberg. This dominates most of the songs with its large vocal range, while the guitars are increasingly becoming a rhythmic component of the music and rarely take over the melodies.
