Leptocereus carinatus is a species of plant in the genus Leptocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet carinatus comes from Latin , means 'keeled' and refers to the ribs on the flowers and fruits.

Leptocereus carinatus has a shrubby growth, is not very branchy and reaches heights of 2 to 2.5 meters. The cloudy, light green, segmented, ascending and elongated shoots rarely branch. They are 60 to 200 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 2 to 2.5 centimeters. There are five, rarely four to six, flattened ribs that are noticeably wavy. The needle-like, straight yellowish thorns turn gray with age. The two to three central spines are 1.8 to 2.5 inches long. The usually six radial spines are on both sides of the areole margin and reach a length of 0.8 to 3 centimeters.

The tubular white flowers appear at the tip of the shoots and open at night. They are 5 to 6.7 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube have five to six ribs and are not very thorny. The ellipsoidal to spindle-shaped green fruits are ribbed. They are 6 to 7 inches long and 3.5 to 4 inches in diameter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Leptocereus carinatus is widespread in eastern Cuba in the Camagüey province .

The first description was in 1993 by L. Alberto E. Areces-Mallea .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
