Les Amis de Paris – Roubaix (German: the friends of Paris – Roubaix) is the name for a French association of cycling supporters based in Roubaix, who received the cobblestones of the Paris – Roubaix cycle race , one of the monuments of cycling , restore, develop new sections and secure them for the race.

history

The idea of the union goes back to an observation by Albert Bouvet , who in 1968, when planning the race, found that more and more sections of the route no longer consisted of the traditional cobblestone pavement (that was the race to the “ Hell of the North "Had made), but had increasingly been paved. At that time, while looking for alternatives, with the help of Jean Stablinski, he discovered the " Trouée d'Arenberg " (German: Schneise or Wald von Arenberg) in Wallers , the most famous cobblestone section of today's race. In 1972 the first supporters got together to create documentations and exhibitions on the original route sections. The first collections of signatures for the preservation of the road sections were also organized. In 1977 the association of the same name was founded on the initiative of Jean-Claude Vallaeys and Albert Bouvet with a statute. The club includes cycling fans from many European countries. The club is now supported by the regional government, the French Ministry of Sports and the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO). With this support, sections of the route are restored and repaired with the help of volunteers. The association maintains a museum in Roubaix.
