Les Belles Lettres

Les Belles Lettres (with full name Société d'Édition Les Belles Lettres ) is a French publisher based in Paris .

The publisher specializes in the publication of scientific literature and has become known since the early years mainly thanks to its book series with the edition of ancient authors. The publishing house was founded after the First World War in conjunction with the Association Guillaume Budé , a learned society that has set itself the goal of spreading ancient culture and literature. The publisher's best-known series of publications to this day consists of the Collection des Universités de France (abbreviated to CUF or Collection Budé ), a collection of text-critical editions by Greek and Latin writers including a French translation. The first volume of this series was published in 1920 consisting of a new edition of the Hippias minor by Plato , edited by Maurice Croiset. Today the series has around 750 titles. The publishing program also includes publications from the field of philosophy, history, antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, some of which appear in book series such as Classiques de l'histoire au Moyen Âge or Classiques de l'Humanisme . The publisher also sells such renowned periodicals as the Année Philologique or the Revue des Études Latines .

The publishing house is connected to a bookstore on Boulevard Raspail in VI. Paris arrondissement .
