Les Erskine

Lester "Les" Erskine (* around 1920; † unknown) was an American musician ( drums ) of swing , rhythm & blues and mainstream jazz .

Live and act

Erskine played from the mid-1940s in the New York jazz scene with Roy Eldridge , with whose big band the first recordings were made (" I Can't Get Started ", Decca). 1948/49 he worked with Bull Moose Jackson and with the singer Bill Johnson , in 1952/53 he was employed as a drummer for King Records , recording R&B musicians such as Wynonie Harris ("All Night Long"), Sonny Thompson , Eddie Mack , Burnie Peacock , Sarah McLawler , Annisteen Allen , also with Hank Ballard . During this time he also played with Paul Quinichette and Buck Clayton / Marlowe Morris .

In late 1953, Erskine was a member of the Vic Dickenson Septet with Ruby Braff , Edmond Hall , Sir Charles Thompson , Steve Jordan and Walter Page (" Keepin 'Out of Mischief Now "). The last recordings were made in early 1954 with Paul Quinichette ("Swingin 'the Blues"). In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions between 1944 and 1954.
