I can't get started

I Can't Get Started (with You) is a popular song composed by Vernon Duke in 1936 , with lyrics by Ira Gershwin .

The song was originally used in the Broadway musical Ziegfeld Follies of 1936 . Bob Hope sang the song in the musical . It later became a popular jazz standard . Bunny Berigans recorded two versions in 1936 and 1937 and the title has become his biggest hit. Berigan received a posthumous Grammy for its 1975 version .

Billie Holiday recorded the song with Lester Young in 1938. In 1942 Young played another version with his trio; besides Young, the trio consisted of pianist Nat King Cole and bassist Red Callender . Elvis Costello sang it in one of the last episodes of Marian McPartland's program Piano Jazz .

The song was played in the films Save the Tiger (1973) and Chinatown (1974).
