Les Noces

Les Noces ( Russian Свадебка , Swadebka; German also Die Bauernhochzeit ) is a dance cantata or ballet with singing by Igor Stravinsky , which he composed between 1914 and 1917.

The instrumentation of the work was not completed until 1923. Stravinsky wrote the libretto himself. He used Russian wedding poems, which he chose mainly from a collection of Ivan Vasilievich Kireevsky (1806-1856).

The ballet was premiered on June 13, 1923 in the Théâtre de la Gaîté-Lyrique in Paris by the Ballets Russes in the choreography by Bronislawa Nijinska , conductor was Ernest Ansermet .

The work consists of four tableaus that are played without interruption. The performance lasts about 25 minutes.

Productions

In 2010 the Italian choreographer Gaetano Posterino staged the work with the ballet company of the Theater Augsburg as part of a ballet evening Stravinsky Trilogy together with Pulcinella and The Story of the Soldier . The premiere was on October 6, 2010.
