Gaetano Posterino
Gaetano Posterino (born April 15, 1974 in Cosenza ) is an Italian dancer , choreographer and dance director for ballet , dance theater , film and opera .
Life
At the age of 6, Posterino began his dance training in Cosenza (Italy). Equipped with a scholarship, he graduated from the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto from 1985 to 1989.
Immediately after completing his training, he was hired in Italy for The Micha Van Hoecke Dance, Balletto di Toscana Florence and the National Opera House in Catania . Gaetano Posterino then danced as a soloist in ballet companies in Argentina, USA, Great Britain, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy and Germany. Important stages in his career as a soloist and principal soloist in the years up to 2000 were the ballet of the Teatro San Martin, the San Francisco Ballet , the English National Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Lucerne Ballet, the Ventura Dance Company and the Peter Schaufuss Ballet . Boris Trailine engaged him in 2001 as Stars of the XXI Century at the Roman Theater in Verona, followed by a worldwide tour. In 2000, Ben van Cauwenbergh brought him to the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden as principal soloist , where he stayed until 2008.
He was in over 100 countries as a dancer a. a. in choreographies by Oscar Araiz, Tarek Assam , George Balanchine , Patrice Bart , Ben Van Cauwenbergh , Nils Christe, Derek Daine, Mats Ek , Antonio Gomez, Jiří Kylián , Enrico C. Musmeci, Marius Petipa , Inbal Pinto, Peter Schaufuss , James Sutherland , Stephan Thoss , Helgi Tómasson , Boris Trailine, Pablo Ventura, Richard Wherlock and Ed Wubbe can be seen on stage.
Posterino has been a choreographer for ballet, dance theater, film and opera since 1995. Parallel to his career as a dancer, he worked as an artistic director , choreographer and ballet master for numerous ballet companies, theaters and dance festivals . He worked on guest choreographies with u. a. for the Hessian State Ballet at the Wiesbaden International May Festival from 2001 to 2004 as well as for the Ballet Istanbul, the Ballet de Santiago de Chile, the Lucerne Ballet, the Pennsylvania Ballet, or the Ballet of the Mainfranken-Theater Würzburg.
In 2001 Achim Thorwald, then director (1996–2002) of the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden appointed him resident choreographer. Numerous new creations for and with the Hessian State Ballet, including full-length works such as Armide , Carmen , Carmina Burana , Coppélia , Sleeping Beauty , Platée or Romeo and Juliet , were created there, continued during Manfred Beilharz's directorship in the years up to 2007 .
Also in 2004 he began his engagement as artistic director and main choreographer at the International Dance Theater Reutlingen, where he created numerous new ballet and dance theater creations until 2011 and established the Internationales Tanztheater I-XI series .
From 2008 to 2011, Gaetano created Posterino as resident choreographer while Robert Conn was conducting ballet for Ballet Augsburg at Theater Augsburg . In addition to ViceVersa, the staging of his Stravinsky trilogy with Les Noces , The Soldier's Story and Pulcinella as well as his choreography for The Land of Smiles received particular attention .
In other engagements, co-productions, guest choreographies and with his Posterino Dance Company, he makes guest appearances as a freelance choreographer in Europe and worldwide. His more than 60 choreographies have so far been shown on over 50 stages in 16 countries. This also includes four productions by the Schwanda opera , the Bagpiper , which he choreographed in 2012, 2014 and 2016 for the Semperoper Dresden and in 2014 for the Teatro Massimo Palermo under the direction of Axel Köhler .
In 2017 he and his Posterino Dance Company became a partner of the multi-year, nationwide program Tanzland , funded by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland with funds from the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
In promoting young talent, he regularly engages young dancers for productions by his Posterino Dance Company.
Posterinos style mixes classical ballet with contemporary elements and modern dance theater. Critics characterize it with descriptions such as "360 degrees, which its compass provides" or "movement language medley".
