Ben Van Cauwenbergh

Ben Van Cauwenbergh (* 1958 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian dancer and choreographer .

life and career

Van Cauwenbergh is the son of the dancer Anna Brabants and received his training at the Stedelijk Instituut voor Ballet in Antwerp. 1976–1977 he was a dancer at the Koninklijk Ballet van Vlaanderen (Royal Ballet of Flanders) , then principal soloist at the London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet ) until 1984 , where he worked with Rudolf Nurejew in its production of “Romeo and Juliet “Occurred. From 1984 to 1987 he returned to the Koninklijk Ballet van Vlaanderen as principal soloist , and between 1987 and 1992 he was principal soloist at the theaters in Bern and Lucerne .

From 1992 to 2007 he was ballet director and choreographer of the ballet ensemble of the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden . Since 2008 he has worked in the same position at the Aalto Theater in Essen . Since the season 2013/14 he is there Ballet intendant .

Van Cauwenbergh received 1976 at the International Ballet Competition of Varna the silver medal and in Lausanne , the Gold Medal of the prestigious Prix de Lausanne . In 1984 he was named "Dancer of the Year" by Dance and Dancers Magazine .
