Leste Province
The province of Leste ( Portuguese Província Leste 'Eastern Province' ) is one of the three provinces of Guinea-Bissau . It has the ISO 3166-2 code GW-L.
The provinces are the top tier of the administrative structure of Guinea-Bissau , but they do not play a role in the country's administrative practice and statistics.
The province of Leste is made up of two regions , the second and most important level of the administrative division of Guinea-Bissau:
The province of Leste has an area of 15,131 km², making it the largest province in the country. With 424,527 inhabitants, less than a third of the population of Guinea-Bissau lives here.
Historically, the area belonged to the Kaabu empire , the predominant ethnic groups here today are the Fulbe and Mandinka .
