Gabú is an administrative region in the east of Guinea-Bissau . It borders Senegal to the north, Guinea to the east and south, and the Tombali and Bafatá regions to the west . Its capital is Gabú .
The region is named after the Mandinka kingdom Kaabu or Gabú , which existed here from the middle of the 16th to the middle of the 19th century. Today the Fulbe and Mandinka live in the area .
According to the official census, the region had around 214,520 inhabitants in 2009. With 9150 km² Gabú is the largest region in Guinea-Bissau.
