Sonaco is a small town in northeast Guinea-Bissau with 2321 inhabitants (as of 2009). It is located between Contuboel and the regional capital Gabú , on a tributary of the nearby Rio Gebas .

The place is the same seat management sector km² with an area of 784 and 37 804 inhabitants (as of 2007), mainly Fulani ( port. Fula ). It is the smallest sector in the Gabú region.

The sector, which is characterized by the savannah landscape , is one of the driest areas of the otherwise very water-rich Guinea-Bissau. The nearby Rio Geba and its tributaries nevertheless provide for rich vegetation in places.

The capital Sonaco is divided into five, with subdivisions seven districts ( Bairros ).

The Sonaco sector comprises a total of 152 places, mostly rural villages ( Tabancas ). The most important localities include:

  • Fase (1979 inhabitants in two districts)
  • Madina Sori (1093 inhabitants)
  • Mafanco (1020 inhabitants in two districts)
  • Paunca (1718 inhabitants in two districts)
  • Saucunda (1483 inhabitants in two districts)
  • Sintchã Samba Joquel (903 inhabitants)
  • Sonaco (2321 inhabitants in seven districts)
  • Tonhataba (809 inhabitants in three districts)

Sports

The most important sports club in the sector is the Futebol Clube de Sonaco football club . FC Sonaco rose to the top Guinea-Bissau league for the first time in 2017 (as of 2017).

He welcomes his guests at the Estádio Conco-Sané in Sonaco.

Since the end of 2017, the association has been holding talks with the traditional Portuguese club Belenenses Lisbon to become a branch association.
