Pitche , also Piche , is a small town in northeast Guinea-Bissau with 4766 inhabitants (as of 2009).

The place is the seat of the administrative sector of the same name with an area of 2021 km² and 29,837 inhabitants (as of 2007).

The predominant ethnic group here are predominantly Fulbe ( Portuguese Fula ).

Landscape and landmarks

The sector, which is characterized by the savannah landscape , is one of the driest areas of the otherwise very water-rich Guinea-Bissau. The near border river Rio Corubal and its tributaries nevertheless provide for wetlands rich in vegetation . The south of the sector lies in the Parque de Boé area , together with Parque Parque de Dulombi part of the Complexo de Área Protegidas Dulombi - Boé Tchetche nature reserve (sometimes referred to as the " Dulombi-Boé National Park " ( Parque Nacional Dulombi-Boé )).

Swimming at several river beaches, fishing, trekking and bird watching is possible here. The Pousada do Saltinho , which is far away and is already in the Bafatá region, is given as the next overnight accommodation option for tourists .

economy

Pitche is considered to be particularly underdeveloped. However, its remoteness from the country's most important centers is somewhat offset by its proximity to the neighboring countries of Senegal and Guinea-Conakry . Cross-border trade provides impetus here.

In addition to trade, animal husbandry (cattle, goats) and some agriculture are the most important branches of the economy, often operated as self- sufficiency.

structure

The Piche sector comprises a little over 200 localities, mostly rural villages ( Tabancas ).

The city of Pitche is divided into 17 districts ( Bairros ). The most important locations in the sector also include:

  • Buruntuma (border town, three districts)
  • Bussira
  • Cambore
  • Canquelifá
  • Dara
  • Jaima
  • Joncoro
  • Pajama (three districts)
  • Sintchã Demba Jamiel
  • Ufoia (five villages)
