The place belongs to the administrative sector of Pitche .

Canquelifá lies in the triangle between Pitche in the south, Buruntuma in the southwest and Bajocunda in the northeast. Unpaved roads (clay slopes) connect the places.

The sector is determined by the savannah landscape . The predominant ethnic group here are predominantly Fulbe ( Portuguese Fula ). They traditionally run livestock, especially cattle.

history

During the Portuguese colonial war , which lasted from 1963 to 1974 in Guinea-Bissau and was particularly intense there, the remote area around Canquelifá was also the scene of mutual commandos and sieges.

The CART2439, a company of the Portuguese Artillery Battalion No. 1913, was stationed here. The PAIGC independence movement besieged and shelled the camp for five days with 122 mm shells in April 1974. A deployment of the command battalion Batalhão de Comandos da Guiné then ended the siege.

This is considered to be the last significant battle of the Portuguese armed forces in Portuguese Guinea. After the Carnation Revolution in Portugal on April 25, 1974, the new government ended the colonial wars and recognized Guinea-Bissau's independence on September 10, 1974.
