Jacob Eight

Jakob Acht (* 1822 in Cologne , † 1887 in Vienna ) was a German painter.

Life

Jakob Acht enrolled in Carl Ferdinand Sohn's composition class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in the winter of 1852/53 . After completing his studies, he worked as a portrait painter in Munich , where he was a member and exhibitor of the art association. Evidently from 1856 to 1870 he is listed as "Acht, J. Portraitmaler" at various addresses in the Munich address books. Only a few of his works can be documented, for example the composition “ Das Familienglück ”, which was shown in the Kunstverein and offered for sale in the daily press. Eight also worked as a still life painter: The entry book of the Vienna Künstlerhaus lists a “ flower piece ” and a “ fruit piece ” for the year 1874 . Eight signed with a monogram, "an 8 through which the J. of his first name is drawn vertically." In 1873 he advertised in Vienna as a retoucher for oil paintings.

According to a note in the “Wiener Zeitung”, the painter died in Vienna in 1887 as a foreigner “responsible for Cologne on the Rhine in Germany”.
