Robert Hass

Robert L. Hass (born March 1, 1941 in San Francisco ) is an American poet and winner of the Pulitzer Prize 2008, which he received for his poetry collection " Time and Materials " . From 1995 to 1997 he held the title of " Poet Laureate " of the United States of America .

Life

Robert Hass was in San Francisco in the state of California was born, which is also reflected in his work. In terms of subject matter and attitude, his poems are considered to be strongly related to the life and culture of the American west coast. Hass grew up with an alcoholic mother, and his older brother encouraged him to write. The alcoholism of his mother made hatred especially in his 1996 poetry book " Sun Under Wood " on the subject. He received his high school degree from Marin Catholic High School in 1958.

He is a professor at the University of California and is married to the poet and antiwar activist Brenda Hillman .

In 1984 he was a MacArthur Fellow . In 2002 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters and in 2005 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Robert Hass was a poet laureate of the United States from 1995 to 1997 and is a Pulitzer Prize winner in 2008 . In 2014 he was awarded the Wallace Stevens Prize by the Academy of American Poets for his oeuvre.
