The Royal Library of the Netherlands in The Hague was founded in 1954. Since 1982 it has been housed in a new building. It also houses the Literatuurmuseum , the Netherlands' national museum of literary studies.

Together with its archive, it shows a permanent exhibition on Dutch authors from 1750 to the present day, including Betje Wolff , Jan Wolkers , Herman Gorter , Willem Kloos , Menno ter Braak and Simon Vestdijk .

Press articles about these authors are shown in the archive. Connected to the museum is the Museum of the Netherlands for children's book literature, the Kinderboekenmuseum.
