Leukippos (Metapontus)
Leukippos ( Greek Λεύκιππος ) is a figure in Greek mythology . He is considered the mythical-archaic founder of the city of Metapont , where he settled Achaeans . He acquired the land of the city from the Tarentines through fraud.
Depictions of Leucippus can be found on metapontic silver and gold coins, on which he is shown partly with the inscription ΛΕΥΚΙΠΠΟΣ and partly without it. He can always be seen wearing a helmet in the illustrations.
