The Leutewitz windmill is a Dutch tower windmill built in 1839 in the Leutewitz district of the Saxon capital Dresden . The windmill is protected as a technical monument .

history

Between 1817 and 1837 the deep Elbe tunnel between Freital and Dresden was excavated , which served as the main drainage tunnel for the coal mines southwest of Dresden. The fifth light hole in the tunnel was created in Leutewitz . The plan rock excavated in the process was stored on a dump on which the windmill was built in 1839 by the builder Johann Gottlieb Pietzsch. The mill was equipped with two grinding aisles for the production of flour. A small drinks bar was run in the mill as an extra income.

In 1844 Friedrich Wilhelm Felgentreff acquired the mill, including the surrounding arable land and a vineyard, and built an inn next to the mill building. This quickly developed into a popular destination. In addition to the inn, a beer garden and an event hall were maintained by various mill owners in the following years.

Its use as a flour mill was discontinued in 1914.

After the reunification , the Leutewitzer Mühle was used for full catering from 1990. A complete renovation took place in 2008, in addition to the inn, a mini golf course and a beach volleyball field were built.
