The Leutschenpark is a 15,600 square meter public park in the Leutschenbach urban development area in Zurich's Seebach district . It is located on a triangle-shaped area between Thurgauerstrasse, Leutschenbachstrasse and Schärenmoosstrasse. The rapid development of the Leutschenbach center area required the creation of local recreation areas as soon as possible . The Leutschenpark mixes elements of a park and an urban square and presents itself as a square park.

history

The project authors dipol Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH, Basel and Christopher T. Hunziker GmbH, Zurich were able to win the competition announced by Grün Stadt Zürich in 2002 with their project “ Sakkade ”. Under the overall management of Benz Ingenieure AG, Zurich , the park was handed over to the population after a construction period of 16 months. Christopher T. Hunziker , visual artist and architect, is responsible for the blue Leutschenlicht .

The park is named after the Leutschenbach that runs under the park.

Travelers

Since 1985, the property management of the city of Zurich has rented 17 parking spaces on Leutschenbachstrasse for travelers residing in Zurich. Since the stands were on the area of the planned Leutschenpark, they had to be relocated to Eichrain, a land reserve on Glatttalstrasse in the Seebach district. At the same time, the capacity was increased from 17 to 30 stands. All pitches now have connections for fresh water, sewerage, gas, electricity and telephone.

Emergence

The park was planned as the actual heart of Leutschenbach. Its round and curved shapes counterbalance the rectangular architecture of the area. The Leutschenpark was designed as a conglomerate that includes the existing elements of the former shooting hill and the Kissling house (today Restaurant Aux Carrés). The facility consists of a gravel area with a stage, a hilly play area, a sunbathing area with a water basin and a "tree pot".

The play area with the climbing facility

The planting with 276 released Gleditschien forms a further contrast to the strict surrounding architecture , some of which are framed with ring-shaped seating. The delicate, bright yellow foliage of these trees when they shoot is set against the dark backdrop of the existing trees in the tree pot. It spreads a cheerful, airy atmosphere and connects the various parking spaces with each other with its shady canopy.

Tree pot

In the middle of the square is the former bullet trap for the shooting range that was used until 1955. Due to the ground contaminated with the lead from bullets, the area overgrown with trees may not be entered. A 3.50 meter high white concrete wall prevents entry and makes it look like an oversized tree pot. The 155 meter long bench that runs all around and is integrated into the wall profile is illuminated in the evening.

Leutschenlicht

At night, the park is illuminated by the 177 meter long blue ribbon of Leutschenlicht that meanders through the treetops. The light installation developed by the artist Christopher T. Hunziker calls to mind the Leutschenbach flowing below the surface. A small drinking fountain provides the soundtrack.
