Christopher T. Hunziker (born September 3, 1956 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is a Swiss artist. In addition to art in public spaces and art in buildings, his work includes large-scale room and light installations as well as landscape architecture and urban space designs.

Life

Hunziker grew up in the USA , Indonesia , Paris and Switzerland . After attending the sub-seminar in Küsnacht , he studied mathematics, physics and art history at the University of Kansas in 1976/77 and then trained as an architect at the ETH Zurich . He then studied architecture and art with Peter Cook and Peter Kubelka at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main from 1984–1985 . 1986 began his activity as a freelance artist with drawing, etching and painting. He has been teaching since 1986, first as an assistant at the Peter Jenny chair in the architecture department at ETH Zurich. In 1990 Dieter Kienast brought him to the landscape architecture department of the Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences as a lecturer in drawing and architecture , where he also worked as a lecturer in landscape architecture, spatial design and visual communication until 2001. Since 1999 he has been a member of the Winterthur artist group. In 1997 he succeeded Irma Noseda as managing director of Forum Architektur Winterthur. From 2009 to 2013 he teaches at the University of Applied Sciences Zurich HSZ-T, later ZHAW, design and construction as well as urban space design. He has been a member of the City of Winterthur's Art Commission since 2018.

As a result of the international competition wins in Wahlenpark 2001 and Leutschenpark 2002, Hunziker founded the company 'Christopher T. Hunziker GmbH' in Zurich with the aim of realizing projects in building architecture, art in building , art in public space, landscape architecture and urban design. Together with Dipol Landschaftsarchitekten, Basel, he realized the Wahlenpark in Zurich-Oerlikon until 2005 and the Leutschenpark with Dipol Landschaftsarchitekten and Müller Sigrist Architekten in Zurich until 2009, the redesign of Leutschenbachstrasse in Zurich Seebach and the redesign of the Oerlikon market square in 2007.

Hunziker has lived in Birmensdorf Zurich since 2009 and has been married to ETH architect Daniela Ruckli since 1998 and has a daughter and a son with her.

Determining for Hunziker's work is his technical, technical and intellectual versatility in the design of philosophical-religious and socio-political topics. His goal is art as a socio-political counter-position to the consumer and capitalized concept of art, as represented by the art market. His attitude is particularly evident in his public art, which eludes the market due to its location and public funding. The large-scale, urban light installations Leutschenlicht in Leutschenpark, the blue glass bar in Wahlenpark, "Red Lines in a Landscape" in Winterthur and Bioquant at Heidelberg University attracted international attention. CTH also works as a lecturer in visual communication at the Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences.
