International Light Days 2004

November 5 to December 5, 2004 - The exhibition Licht-Raum in the Gewerbemuseum was dedicated to the phenomenology of light. The starting point was experimental arrangements that made it possible to experience the most varied of light qualities. The development of light sources from natural flames to luminous foils and their lighting effects led to another part of the exhibition in which the basics of contemporary lighting design in the interplay of daylight and artificial light in a walk-in living and working environment were shown. The workshops on lighting design, which were organized in cooperation with the "European Lighting Designers' Association" (ELDA +) network, developed lighting solutions for selected places, buildings and rooms in the former industrial area "Sulzer-Areal", which were implemented with new, sustainable materials . Susanna Attico , Uwe Belzner , Henrietta Lynch , Linnaea Tillett , Michael Schmidt and Christian Vogt created temporary lighting designs with students from all over the world. The results were presented to the public for two weeks. On November 18, 2004, a conference was held on the subject of “Revitalization of industrial locations”, which was developed in cooperation between the International Light Days, the “ Swiss Light Society ” (SLG) and the “ European Lighting Designers' Association ” (ELDA +). The Sulzer high-rise (Wintower), by Bruno Stefanini , was turned into a shining crown of the city for 10 days by artist Christopher T. Hunziker as an urban light installation "LIGHT" on the occasion of the Winterthur International Light Days.
