Johannes Gees

Johannes Gees (born February 17, 1960 in Romanshorn , Bodensee ) is a Swiss installation and performance artist as well as media producer .

biography

Johannes Gees was born in Romanshorn on Lake Constance (Switzerland) as the oldest of three brothers. He went to school there and then studied ethnology and history at the University of Zurich from 1980 to 1985 . At the same time he began a career as a rock musician and founded several bands, including "Sarah Röben" and the "Scuba Divers", gave over a hundred concerts and recorded several records and CDs. In addition, he began to be interested in photography and graphic design and worked for various media companies as an editor, picture editor, graphic designer and art director . From the mid-1990s he worked as a website developer and discovered the Internet as a means of artistic expression.

He came to art via detours and has made an international name for himself since 1999. His most famous works include communimage , (1999), hellomrpresident (2001) and helloworldproject (2003). His work includes interactive and collaborative laser projections , photographic work, video installations and interactive LED installations. Johannes Gee's interactive works, in which media and communication technology (Internet, SMS, webcams) and landscapes combine to create fascinating collaborative happenings , have already taken place in Davos, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Mumbai (Bombay) and Geneva. For the Swiss national exhibition "Expo.02", Gees developed the website from 1998–2000. 2001–2002 he was jointly responsible for the "Arteplage mobile du Jura" project. From 2004–2008 he was responsible for the editing and operation of the short film platform www.agent-provocateur.ch. In 2012 Johannes Gees founded the first Swiss crowdfunding platform Wemakeit together with the artist and designer Jürg Lehni and the cultural producer Rea Eggli .
