from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ursula Palla (* 1961 in Chur , Switzerland ) is a Swiss artist. In her video works , installations and sculptures she deals with the relationship between nature, culture and technology, reality and artificiality.

life and work

Ursula Palla studied drawing and painting at the F + F School for Art and Design in Zurich from 1989 to 1992 , where she then taught video art until 1999. She was the assistant to Pipilotti Rist . As a freelance artist, she mainly works with video installations and has been exhibiting regularly since 1992. In 1994 she co-founded the performance group Cooperation Projekt X (cpx) in Zurich, of which she was a member until 2002. She lives and works in Zurich .

According to the art critic Angelika Affentranger-Kirchrath, there is a fundamental ambivalence in the work of Ursula Palla. “On the one hand, she belongs to a generation of artists who have been using the illusionistic principles of the video medium affirmatively since the 1990s; at the same time, her art is shaped by a critical-conceptual approach that exposes precisely these seduction mechanisms of media culture as deception.
