Bullet trap

Concrete bullet trap

A bullet trap (also bullet trap ) is generally a device on the shooting range that safely catches bullets penetrating or missing the target, often by means of a sand or earth wall. In the hunter's language , terrain that can safely intercept a projectile when shooting is called natural bullet trap .

The height of a military bullet trap is around five to ten meters. The side facing the shooter is kept steep so that the bullets do not come back as ricochets (not to be confused with unstabilized tumbling bullets, the ricochets ) or go further in any other way. Special devices, such as wooden blocks, should make it easier for the projectiles to get stuck in the bullet trap than is the case with ball traps made of earth.

More modern ammunition with deformation effects leads to the destruction of conventional bullet traps. These are therefore often set up as a chain bullet trap, consisting of a multi-layer chain curtain with a low installation depth. Using them can lead to increased metal dust concentrations in the room air, especially lead .
