Levitation is a musical group founded in 1992. Their music is a mixture of downbeat, chill out, lounge and other electronic styles.

Band history

The three producers Ingmar Hänsch from Cologne, Marcell Meyer and Chris Gilcher from Munich in Belgium got to know each other at a party in 1992 through the production of musically based computer animations. Influenced by different musical styles, they shared a common passion for the techno boom that was emerging in Germany at the time.

After a short period of collaboration, they released the first 12 "EP on the Frankfurt label 23 Records under the name" Orange 8 ". In the following three years the trio recorded tracks that are characterized by light and floating elements. This collection of faster ones Trance pieces and reduced downtempo and hip-hop grooves appeared on the first Levitation album in 1996. Influenced by Hänsch's work as in-house producer at Logic Records Frankfurt, the sound of the release was due to the collaboration with Marc Spoon ( Jam & Spoon ) and the contact to Underworld and Leftfield .

The jump from Germany to Ibiza took place in parallel with the release of the local record company OMM (Open Mind Music), with which Hänsch collaborated.

With the volume Cuatro of the compilation series Cafe del Mar , which still exists today , the release of “Out Of Time” in 1997 was the first success for Levitation. This track was later used nationwide in the 2002 promotional campaign "D2 is about Vodafone". "More Than Ever People" feat. Cathy Battistessa on Café Del Mar Volume Cinco brought success to the masses a year later. DJ and compiler José Padilla played the song almost every evening at sunset until he left Café Del Mar, which made it well known. "More Than Ever People" was used in several commercials, TV series and documentaries in the years that followed, and was also a kind of "signature tune" for levitation.

In 1999 the producer collective was also able to contribute a track to Café Del Mar VOLUME Seis with “Oh Home” . The song is a cooperation with the Iberian guitarist Paco Fernandez and again Cathy Battistessa. At the beginning of 2000/2001, the project was suspended in favor of other collaborations, for example "JF Sebastian" with DJ Pippi (resident of Pacha / Ibiza) or "Jelly & Fish", a side project by Marcell and Chris, with "Appreciation" also on Café Del Mar volume Cinco appears.

Mousse T.'s Hanoverian house label "Peppermint Jam" released a vinyl remix package of "More Than Ever People" in 2001 with versions of Can7 and Sounds Of Life.

In 2003 a co-production with the classical and jazz pianist Friedrich Gulda appeared on Open Mind Music and Gulda's own label Paradise Productions. The piano tracks he recorded a year before his death became the basis of the title Years Passing By by DJ Pippi, Friedrich Gulda and Levitation.

To say goodbye to Café Del Mar , José Padilla released the single "Adios Ayer". Levitation thanked them for their years of support with a remix.

In 2011, after a long break from the project and following their own paths, Chris and Marcell founded their record company "Whirlpool Records", which in 2013 was renamed "Newpool Music". You could win Anusch Mehdizadeh (VIRGIN, EMI, Deluxe Music) as label manager.
