Lexell is an impact crater in the south of the front of the moon , south of the Mare Nubium , in the interior of the Deslandres mountain range , on its southern edge. The crater is heavily eroded, especially in the northern area.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Swedish-Russian mathematician and astronomer Anders Johan Lexell .
