Li Xiaopeng ( Chinese  李宵鵬 , Pinyin Lǐ Xiāopéng ; born June 20, 1975 in Qingdao ) is a former Chinese national soccer player and current coach. At the 2002 World Cup , he played in all preliminary round matches. However, the team could not qualify for the round of 16.

Life

Li is considered to be one of the best midfielders in China. He gained his first international experience at the AFC U-16 Junior Championship in 1992 , where his team became Asian champions. This enabled China to qualify for the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Japan.

His professional career began in 1994 when he was signed by his home club Shandong Luneng Taishan . During his 12-year career, he only played for this club, which has become a rarity in football today. In 1999 he won the double with his team.

At the international level, the qualification for the Soccer World Cup in 2002 in South Korea and Japan followed, but the Chinese national team was eliminated in the preliminary round.

In 2005, Li retired and first worked as a coach for Shandong Luneng Taishan's junior teams. In March 2008 he was finally appointed to his current position, where he was responsible for putting together a competitive women's team for the National Games in October 2008.
