Liam McArthur

Liam McArthur (born August 8, 1967 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats . He is married and has two sons.

Life

In 1977 McArthur moved with his parents to the island of Sanday , an island of the Orkneys . He attended Sanday Junior High School and Kirkwall Grammar School in Kirkwall . McArthur then studied political science at the University of Edinburgh and graduated with a master's degree . Between 1990 and 1992 he worked for then House MP Jim Wallace ; a second time between 2002 and 2005 during his time as Deputy First Minister .

Political career

After Jim Wallace's resignation from the Scottish Parliament , McArthur succeeded him in the Orkney constituency and ran for the direct mandate in the 2007 general election . With a clear lead he was able to decide the election for himself and moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time. In the 2011 parliamentary elections he defended his mandate. Between 2008 and 2011, McArthur was spokesman for the Scottish Liberal Democrats on Environment, Rural Development and Energy. In the 2016 general election , McArthur was able to significantly increase his share of the vote and thus defend his mandate.
