The Lebanese national rugby league team , also known by its nickname Cedars , represents Lebanon on an international level in the sport of rugby league . In 2000 the team took part in the Rugby League World Cup.

history

Rugby League has no tradition in Lebanon and all the players who played the first international match in 1998 (52:28 against Japan ) were Australians with Lebanese roots. In 2000, the team took part in the World Cup, but could not record any success except for a draw against the Cook Islands . At the World Championships in 2008 and 2013 , Lebanon failed to qualify. Nevertheless, the Cedars are still considered to be the strongest national team in Asia . A 90:28 after a two-way leg against South Africa reached qualification for the Rugby League World Cup 2017 in October 2015 , where they advanced to the quarter-finals.
