Liber de similitudinibus et exemplis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Liber de similitudinibus et exemplis (also known under the name Tabula exemplorum ) is a collection of proverbs in Latin from the first half of the 13th century, arranged in alphabetical order by subject, starting with accidia (laziness) and ending with Xristi ascensio (the Ascension of Christ ). The work has often been ascribed to Anselm of Canterbury , from whose work most of the proverbs come. Also Eadmer , the biographer Anselm was named as presumed author. Some of De similitudinis' manuscripts have been illustrated. The earliest surviving manuscript with pictures is the British Library, Cotton Ms. Cleopatra C.XI, made around 1200–1220.
