Liberdade ( Portuguese Distrito Paulistano da Liberdade , Japanese リ ベ ル ダ ー ジ ) is one of 96 districts ( distritos ) of the Brazilian metropolis of São Paulo and is administered by the regional prefecture of Sé .

The district founded in the 1950s is divided into the Bairro da Liberdade and the Bairros Aclimação and Glicério with the same name. It was formerly known as Campo da Forca .

The district is one of the most important sights in the city and the most important place of residence of the Japanese community in Brazil. The name Liberdade came about after the abolition of slavery in 1888. In 2010 it had an estimated population of 69,092 inhabitants on 3.7 km².

Liberdade is considered to be the world's largest Japanese community ( Japantown ) outside of Japan .
