Japantown

Japantown ( German : Japanstadt or Japanese city) is a common name for a neighborhood outside of Japan in which a large number of people of Japanese descent live. This term is used especially for metropolises in the USA and Canada , but also outside of the Anglophone countries. Japantowns can be compared in their structure with Chinatowns or Koreatowns .

Japantowns are also known as Little Tokyo , Nihonmachi or J-Town .

Brazil

Liberdade is a Japantown in the Brazilian metropolis of São Paulo . Liberdade is the largest Japanese city outside of Japan.

Germany

In Germany there is a Japantown in Düsseldorf . Almost every fifth Japanese in Germany lives in Ober- and Niederkassel west of the Rhine. The Düsseldorf Japantown is also commonly known as Nippon am Rhein called and has about 6,000 residents and more than 400 Japanese companies.

Canada

In Canada , the largest Japantown is in Vancouver .

United States

In the USA there are several cities in Japantown, one of the largest is that of Los Angeles (see: Little Tokyo ). Even San Francisco has a Japantown.
