Liberty Global Europe

Liberty Global Europe (formerly UnitedGlobalCom Europe or UGC Europe ) is the leading cable television provider in Europe. The company run by Michael T. Fries is a 100 percent subsidiary of Liberty Global .

In Austria , Liberty Global Europe operated the subsidiary UPC Telekabel , which mainly offers broadband, internet and telephone services in the Graz , Klagenfurt and greater Vienna area. The provider of the same services, chello, is also a subsidiary of UPC Telekabel and thus previously of Liberty Global.

On September 30, 2005 , Liberty Global Europe took over the Swiss cable operator " Cablecom " for 2.825 billion dollars.

In Germany , Unitymedia had been a subsidiary of Liberty Global since 2009 and with 2.7 million customers in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg , Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, it was the second largest cable network operator in Germany. On July 18, 2019, Unitymedia, UPC Romania , UPC Czech Republic and UPC Hungary were taken over by the Vodafone Group . A sale of UPC Switzerland to Sunrise Communications failed due to the largest Sunrise shareholder Freenet .

UPC Austria was previously sold to Magenta Telekom on July 31, 2018 .
