Liborius Hofmann

Liborius Hofmann also: Liberius Hoffmann, Lyborius Hofmann (* around 1561 in Friedrichroda ; † April 5, 1599 in Düsseldorf ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Hofmann was the son of the merchant and mayor Liborius Hoffmann (* 1534 in Tambach; † 24 November 1608 in Friedrichroda) and his first wife Barbara Deise (* 1528; † 23 February 1602 in Friedrichroda), the widow of Volkmar Thile. He seems to have received his first training in Gotha. On December 17, 1578 he enrolled at the University of Altdorf , moved to the University of Marburg on October 11, 1582 , was at the University of Jena in the summer semester of 1585 and moved to the University of Wittenberg on November 24, 1585 . Here he advanced under Andreas von Rauchbar on February 9, 1587, licentiate in law, became a lawyer at the court in Wittenberg and associate professor of law.

In 1588 he followed a call as a full professor of law at the University of Jena, where he received his doctorate in law on September 2, 1588 and was attorney at court. Some legal treatises that arose in the context of his university activities bear his name. He does not seem to have produced his own works. Hofmann also took part in the organizational tasks of the Salana. He was dean of the law faculty a few times and, in the summer semester of 1596, rector of the alma mater . Suffering from health problems, he went to Düsseldorf, where he died. There is a painting of him in the custody holdings of the University of Jena.

Hofmann married on September 23, 1590 with Sibylla Mirus (* 1566 in Sülzbrücken, † February 16, 1633 in Jena), the daughter of the theologian Martin Mirus . There are children from the marriage. One of these is the daughter Anna Margaretha Hoffmann (born November 14, 1591 in Jena; † December 16, 1612 ibid) who met Georg Mylius on August 28, 1609 (February 1, 1586 in Wittenberg; † June 7, 1637 in Jena), the son of the theologian Georg Mylius , married. The daughter Sibylle Hofmann married around 1600 with Zwätzer Komtur Bernhard Hillard. The sons Otto Hofmann and Christoph Günther Hofmann are also known.
