Liborius Chapel (Salzkotten)
The Liborius Chapel is a listed church building in Salzkotten in the Paderborn district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
When the Liborius relics were transferred to Paderborn in 836, a mass was supposedly celebrated at this point. The chapel stands on the site of a previous chapel, the so-called Liboriushuiseken, which was built to commemorate the occasion.
The neo - Romanesque three- icon complex was built from 1901 to 1902 by Franz Mündelein from broken stone. The building stands elevated above a two-armed, curved staircase. The crossing tower is polygonal. In the simple interior there is a high drum dome over the crossing. The focus is on the Liborius Altar with a representation of the transfer of the relics. Four angels carry the shrine on their shoulders, they wear tapes. The figure of St. Liborius is a cast from the 20th century. The building was extensively renovated in 2002.
