LibreCAD is an open source program for two-dimensional CAD drawings. It is distributed as free software under the GPL and is currently available for Windows , macOS and Linux . LibreCAD is a fork of the CAD software QCad .

Range of functions

LibreCAD uses DXF , DWG (read only) , LFF, CXF and JWW as file formats . An export of created drawings is possible in JPG , PNG , PPM , SVG , TIF , BMP , XBM and XPM . The program is available in over 20 languages, including German , English , Spanish , French , Italian , Russian , Turkish and Japanese .

The units of measurement that can be used include those of the metric , the Anglo-American measurement system and various astronomical units.

DWG format

From version 2.0.8, LibreCAD also supports the DWG format of AutoCAD . Since LibreCAD (under GPL v2) could not use the free library "LibreDWG" (under GPL v3) for licensing reasons, LibreCAD now has its own implementation to read DWG files. Writing this format is not supported by this implementation, changes must therefore be saved in DXF format.

Versions

On December 30th, 2013 the first release version 2.0.0 of LibreCAD 2.0 was published. Error corrections and new functions lead to the publication of new Release 2.0.x versions at irregular intervals.

Phoronix , January 24, 2013, accessed on August 22, 2013 (English): “ Both LibreCAD and FreeCAD both want to use LibreDWG and have patches available for supporting the DWG file format library, but can't integrate them. The programs have dependencies on the popular GPLv2 license while the Free Software Foundation will only let LibreDWG be licensed for GPLv3 use, not GPLv2. "
