Licet ecclesiae catholicae

With the papal bull Licet ecclesiae catholicae on April 9, 1256 , Pope Alexander IV ordered the great union (magna unio) of the Tuscan hermits, the Janbonites (Zanbonini), the Brictinians (Brictini), the Wilhelmites and the hermits of St. Augustine .

Augustinian order

As a result of this merger, the Augustinian Hermits (OESA) emerged as the fourth important mendicant order , alongside the Franciscans , Dominicans and Carmelites . Today this congregation is called the Augustinian Order .

Appreciation

Pope Benedict XVI In 2007 he traveled to the two Italian dioceses of Vigevano and Pavia to pray at the tomb of St. Augustine . The pilgrimage of the Pope took place 750 years ago on the occasion of the publication of the bull “Licet ecclesiae catholicae”.
