Licht is the seventh studio album by the German band Die Apokalyptischen Reiter . It was released on August 29, 2008 by Nuclear Blast and on November 10, 2008 by The End Records ( US ). Licht is the only album on the Lady Cat-Man, which Die Apokalyptischen Reiter left after a year and played with.
history
Preparations and songwriting for Licht began in 2007 . In March 2008, the recording started in the Principal Studios , where the previous album Riders on the Storm was recorded. During the recording, on March 22, 2008, the band announced the separation from guitarist Pitrone. He left Die Apokalyptischen Reiter after six years after more and more differences arose between him and the band.
"[D] a was the feeling [...] that somehow sand had gotten into the machine. In the past few months, the impression has grown that five men are no longer pulling together. Little things added up, anger built up, different views on the band's sound became apparent. "
He was replaced by Lady Cat-Man, a former guitar student in Weimar , who was recommended to singer Fuchs by a friend. The guitar parts were no longer recorded by Pitrone, but by her and Fuchs. The piano elements to be heard were recorded for the first time on a grand piano instead of a keyboard .
On August 29, 2008, Licht was released by the Nuclear Blast label, in the USA by The End Records on November 10, 2008. The album is also available with a bonus CD containing the single The Way , the Game Monsterball and a Making-of for the video The path are included.
After the album was released, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter started a tour through Germany , Austria , Switzerland and some other countries.
Licht remained the only album on which Lady Cat-Man played, as she left the band after the tour.

Album name
The name light is supposed to symbolize hope for the band and those who do not want to come to terms with the realities of life. It also stands for “progress, struggle, love, courage, solidarity in happy moments in need, skepticism, questions and simply for the last one and a half years of Reiter history.” ( Fuchs :) These points are reinforced by the fact that all texts of the Albums tell autobiographical stories from real life.
Cover
The cover shows the band with white pants and a bare chest (except Lady Cat-Man) stepping out of a glaring light. It is based on the song Wir sind das Licht , which is also the title track of the album. The cover takes up the symbolism of hope that the album is intended to spread. The cover is rather untypical for the metal scene, as dark covers are usually used.
criticism
Licht received consistently good reviews in the metal scene and was highly praised. Marc Halupczok from Metal Hammer emphasizes the homogeneity compared to the old album and awards 6 out of 7 points.
The Apocalyptic Horsemen are repeatedly praised for doing their own thing, despite high expectations. For example, Jessica from the webzine metal.de praises this fact and awards 9 out of 10 points:
"Despite their immense success, The Apocalyptic Riders always do their thing, regardless of any expectations that are placed on them and do not allow themselves to be messed up."
Also whiskey-soda.de is enthusiastic about the album the band and assigns the highest rating first
The webzine metalnews.de also gives top marks. So was light 6.5 by 7 points and is referred to as "created art":
“Anyone [!] Who is ready to approach this masterpiece openly and tolerantly will be delighted with it. The Horsemen of the Apocalypse didn't just release a metal CD, they created art. "
