Lichtenberg professorship

The Lichtenberg Professorship is a funding program of the Volkswagen Foundation with the aim of giving outstanding scientists the opportunity to acquire a professorship at a German university . The professorships were named after the mathematician and first German professor for experimental physics Georg Christoph Lichtenberg .

The program, started in 2002 , supports scientists in establishing unconventional and interdisciplinary research focuses. Until 2017 81 Lichtenberg Professorships were established.
