Nubl ( Arabic نبل, alternatively Nubbul) is a city in the Aleppo Governorate in Syria , which is northwest of the city of Aleppo . Nearby cities are az-Zahra ' immediately south, Anadan in the southeast, Tall Rifaat in the northeast, Aqiba in the north, Brad in the west and Mayer directly to the east. According to the Syrian Bureau of Statistics, Nubl had 21,039 inhabitants in 2004. The majority of the population belongs to Shiite Islam and, together with the nearby az-Zahra ', forms a small Shiite enclave in the otherwise predominantly Sunni governorate of Aleppo.

Syrian civil war

From July 2012 on, Nubl was surrounded by the anti-government forces around the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the troops of the Syrian armed forces there could only be supplied by air. On February 3, 2016, the siege was lifted during an offensive by government forces and Hezbollah .
