The classic love killer: the long johns

The term love killer is a buzzword that is now used to describe both clothing and behaviors that can have a negative impact on erotic attraction or a relationship. Originally the term was coined for long men's panties.

As the classic Liebestöter the long applies underpants for men. The term is intended to express that this item of underwear looks extremely unotic to the wearer and does not give rise to any feelings of pleasure. The long johns were introduced around 1870, but the term is much more recent and is also limited to the German-speaking area. In the US and England, men's long johns are commonly known as “Long Johns”, named after a boxer named John, and may now be considered old-fashioned , but are not referred to as “passion killers”.

Later, the term love killer was extended to other models of underpants for men, especially those made of white fine rib or double rib with intervention, such as those made by the Schiesser company, for example . Possibly as a male return coach , the term was then also applied to female underpants with longer legs and it developed into a general synonym for old-fashioned and unattractive underwear . Wearing such underwear is usually a sign of bourgeoisie .

Recently, completely different items of clothing have been called love killers , for example baggy sweatpants or socks worn in bed .

Others

The term love killer is now also used as a synonym for the buzz word relationship killer. This refers to behaviors that consciously or unconsciously disturb the partner and which burden the relationship in the long term. This term can be used to describe very different things, for example extreme jealousy , sloppiness or lack of personal hygiene.
