Supplier structure

The term supplier structure is used in the area of procurement management to describe the upstream external value chain . The term is widespread in the automotive industry . Based on the vehicle manufacturer, also referred to as OEM , the different supply levels (English tier) are shown. Analogous terms are supplier portfolio, base or network, which are also assigned extended or other meanings.

Industrial context

Already today, only around 30% of the total added value of a vehicle is generated by the respective vehicle manufacturer (OEM). A further reduction is expected in the future . As a result, the performance of the supplier structure for a vehicle manufacturer is an essential factor that determines competition.

The supplier evaluation is usually carried out using the criteria offer price , product and service quality, logistical availability and technological innovation potential.
