Lietuvos draudimas (German: "Insurance of Lithuania") is the largest (by number of employees) insurance company in Lithuania . It is owned by the British Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc. ( RSA ). LD has about a third of the Lithuanian insurance market, 0.7 million customers with 840,000 insurance contracts in almost 90 departments. In 2010 the company paid customers 200 million litas (58 million euros).
history
In 1921 the Lietuvos valstybinio apdraudimo įstaiga institution was established . In 1924 it became Lietuvos valstybinis apdraudimas . In 1940 she got an insurance monopoly and was nationalized. In 1991 Lietuvos valstybinė draudimo įstaiga was registered. In 1994, 30 percent of the shares were sold (privatized). 1996 Valstybinė draudimo įstaiga became AB Lietuvos draudimas . In 2012 it achieved sales of 380 million litas . In 2011, LD employed 1205 people.
